Outdoorsy Canadians rejoice! Subaru has applied a series of minor updates to its go-anywhere Outback crossover, which will begin arriving at the Japanese automaker’s dealerships this fall.
The 2023 Subaru Outback introduces a redesigned front fascia, which includes a much larger grille and different LED headlamps, along with more pronounced black plastic side wheel arch cladding. These styling updates do not apply to the Outback Wilderness trim level, which is more rugged-looking than the rest of the Outback lineup and will thus continue with its own unique exterior appearance.
Interior updates on the 2023 Subaru Outback are minimal, however, the range-topping Touring trim level will offer a new Black Nappa leather interior option with contrasting tan stitching, high-gloss black molding for the pillars, chrome-plated door handles, and satin-plated side mirrors. The Touring trim has also received a new Wide-Angle Mono Camera for the EyeSight driver assistance system, which expands the system’s field of view so it can spot pedestrians and bicyclists sooner. The Subaru EyeSight suite combines several driver assistance features to offer an added layer of safety, including advanced adaptive cruise control with lane centring and automatic emergency braking, among more. Also new for Touring is a full LCD Smart Rear-View Mirror with auto-dimming, a built-in compass, and Subaru Homelink.
The black-themed Onyx Edition trim level returns to the 2023 Subaru Outback and is now available with both the naturally aspirated 2.5-litre Boxer four-cylinder and the upgraded turbocharged 2.4-liter Boxer engine. The 2.5-litre engine is rated at 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, while the turbo 2.4-litre produces 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. All Onyx Edition models will come with gloss black exterior trim, 18-inch alloy wheels and an exclusive gray two-tone interior with waterproof StarTex upholstery.
The refreshed 2023 Subaru Outback will be available in Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring trim levels when it goes on sale this fall. Canadian pricing will be shared as its official launch date here approaches.
