A new entry-level Mercedes-Benz is coming to Canada soon. We got to drive the all-new A-Class sedan last fall and now we have a price to go with it. The A 220 will start at just under $35,000.
The new A-Class is loaded with tech, like the new MBUX system, and will have available all-wheel drive. It might be the lowest-priced car in the lineup, but we said that "it may be Benz’s new entry-level offering, but there’s nothing entry-level about it."
It starts with the all-new Mercedes-Benz User Experience system. The high-tech infotainment comes with "Hey Mercedes" voice control that the company says can understand natural language. So you can ask it what you want without having to use the exact wording the company programmed in. It will also have an augmented reality screen, projecting digital overlays on top of a real-life image to help with navigation and traffic on the infotainment screen.
Mercedes-Benz has added some new active safety features to the car. Like blind spot assist with rear cross-traffic alert that leaves the sensors on for three minutes after the car is shut off. That will alert passengers to cyclists or pedestrians approaching from behind.
The only engine at launch is a 2.0L turbo four that makes 188 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch box. The A-Class sedan will be available as the front-drive A 220 or the all-wheel-drive A 220 4Matic when it arrives later this year.
