263,289 Honda and Acura Vehicles Added to Airbag Recall List

The list of vehicles affected by the Takata airbag recalls has grown again. This time more than 263,000 Honda and Acura vehicles from model years 2010 to as recent as 2015 are affected.

The issue with the defective airbags is the same as with previous recalls. On the affected vehicles, long-term exposure to high humidity and temperature, combined with cycling temperatures, can degrade the propellant in the airbag. In this case, passenger side bags.

If that happens, the airbag could deploy with more force than expected. It could then propel fragments at the occupants of the vehicle, which could cause injury. It could also damage the airbag assembly, which could lead to the bag not functioning properly.

The fix is a free replacement of the passenger airbag at the dealer.

The new recall affects the Acura CSX, RL, TSX, ZDX and Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, Crosstour, Element, Fit, Insight, Pilot, and Ridgeline for various years from 2010-2015. See the list of today's recall below to check for your vehicle and model year.

Because of the wide number of vehicles, manufacturers, and model years affected since the recalls started in 2015, Transport Canada has set up a recall page specifically for this issue. You can enter your vehicle info there to see if it is affected. You can also check the manufacturer's site or contact your dealer.

Despite the wide-ranging recall, Transport Canada says that it is not aware of any airbag deployment incidents in Canada, and automakers have confirmed no abnormal deployments. But it is still important to have the recall completed to ensure proper airbag function.
