The 2019 Toyota 86 sports car will carry the same starting price of $29,990 as last year's model, while the lineup newly includes a TRD Special Edition as the new top-of-the-line model that will be limited to 50 examples for the Canadian market.
The 86 TRD Special Edition builds off the GT trim (detailed below) and comes exclusively with a manual transmission and an MSRP of $38,220. In addition to the GT's features, it gets Brembo brakes, Sachs dampers, performance dual exhaust and aero kit, 18-inch wheels, red-stitched interior with red seat belts and TRD trim and a TRD-exclusive Raven Black paint colour.
As before, the base 86 comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, 7.0-inch display audio system with Bluetooth, air conditioning, variable intermittent wipers and power-adjustable and heated side mirrors. The base price includes a six-speed manual transmission, and a six-speed automatic is a $1,200 option.
Next up is the GT trim which, at $33,260, is also priced to match last year's model. For the extra money, Toyota adds dual-zone automatic air conditioning, upgraded seats with suede-like inserts and leather side bolsters, multi-information display, passive keyless entry, rear spoiler and LED fog lights. Again, the automatic transmission is a $1,200 add.
There are no changes to the 86's mechanical makeup. A 2.0L four-cylinder horizontally-opposed engine delivers 205 hp and 156 lb-ft of torque (or 200 hp/151 lb-ft with the automatic transmission) to the rear wheels; the automatic is notable for rev-matched downshifts when commanded by the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The 2019 Toyota 86 is available now at dealers across Canada.
