DETROIT, Michigan – The winners of the annual North American Car and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) awards were announced today at the Detroit Auto Show.
Previously only awarded to two category winners – North American Car and North American Truck of the Year – in 2017 the awards were expanded to include Utility Vehicle of the Year to reflect the explosive popularity of this segment.
Winner of the North American Car of the Year is the 2018 Honda Accord, beating out the venerable Toyota Camry and the new Kia Stinger performance sedan.
Winner of the North American Truck of the Year Award for 2018 is the Lincoln Navigator. Runners up were the Ford Expedition and Colorado ZR2.
Winner of the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year for 2018 is the Volvo XC60. Other finalists were the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the Honda Odyssey.
NACTOY was established in 1994, and is made up of approximately 60 professional auto writers who evaluate and select the best from dozens of qualifying vehicles during three rounds of voting until only three vehicles per category remain. These finalists are announced at the press conference before the Los Angeles Auto Show. The winners are traditionally announced in January at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) – also known as the Detroit auto show.
