This 600 hp Toyota C-HR is Quicker than a Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Toyota has brought some pretty amazing concepts to SEMA over the years, like a Top Fuel Dragster Camry, and a 350 km/h Land Cruiser, but none of them hold a candle to this year's C-HR. Excuse me, 600 hp C-HR.

"Built to be the world’s quickest CUV, the C-HR R-Tuned was tested extensively at the racetrack and has turned quicker lap times than a McLaren 650S Spyder, 911 GT3 RS, and Nismo GT-R at Willow Springs International Raceway." That's not on the short course either, that's on the nine turn, 4.1 km Big Willow Circuit.

That's a C-HR that's faster than a Porsche 911 GT3 RS or a McLaren 650S. That's impressive. So what does it take to make a C-HR sing?

Toyota swapped out the 2.0L engine from the stock 2018 Toyota C-HR and inserted the larger 2.4L 2AZ-FE engine from the 2010 Corolla XRS. It gets forged rods and pistons and a valvetrain made from Inconel. Plus a massive Garrett turbo that pushes 23 psi. It all adds up to over 600 hp.

Replacing the stock CVT, which presumedly ran and hid, is a five-speed manual with an OS Giken limited slip front differential. And yes, this C-HR is still front-wheel drive.

Keeping those front wheels stuck are massive 275/35R18 Toyo Proxes RR competition tires. A front air dam, side skirts, front splitter, and massive rear wing give the C-HR R-Tuned 186 kg of downforce at speed. The suspension comes from Motion Control, and and the dampers are triple-adjustable remote reservoir.

The interior is stripped, then fitted with a roll cage. Combined with the stripped interior, a carbon fibre hood trims more than 100 kg from the curb weight.

Dan Garner, from DG-Spec, the builder of this C-HR, said that "the C-HR R-Tuned has been to the track every month since we started the project late last year. "It’s probably been subjected to more real-world tests than just about any car built for SEMA. It’s not just a show concept but a track-worthy performance vehicle."
