Range Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport Get More Power

Land Rover is powering up two of its smallest models. The Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque get two new engines for 2018, and they come with a big boost in horsepower, alongside some new trims.

The Disco Sport and the Evoque both get a pair of new 2.0L four-cylinder engines. The new engines replace the old 2.0L four, and start out with a similar power figure. The new base engine makes 237 hp, and the old one made 240.

But the second engine raises the output. Considerably. It boosts the turbo four engine to 286 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. With a nine-speed automatic, that engine powers the Evoque from 0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

The new Ingenium four-cylinder engines get a higher-pressure fuel injection system with improved injectors. The exhaust manifold is now integrated with the cylinder head for faster warm up and quicker turbo response. The high-output versions have different turbos with different bearings that improve efficiency, power, and response.

In the Evoque, the more powerful engine comes in two trim levels. HSE Dynamic and Autobiography. On the outside, the extra power is shown with a new flashier bumper. New for 2018 is a value-oriented Landmark Edition trim for five-door models that pairs the smaller engine with a choice of just three colours, along with unique wheels and special ebony interior.

The Discovery Sport also has the more powerful engine on HSE trim, as well as HSE Luxury. All high-output models have Dynamic exterior and interior detailing. That includes a front bumper with bigger air intakes, Windsor leather seats with contrast piping, and a unique steering wheel.

The powered-up SUVs are available now, with the Evoque starting from $49,900, and the Discovery Sport from $43,500.
