Porsche is getting set to fit its Macan compact crossover with a pair of downsized turbocharged V6 motors borrowed from the Panamera to replace those currently found in the little utility's S and Turbo trims.
As Autocar points out, in the 2017 Porsche Panamera, the engines displace 2.9L and 3.0L, with the smaller of the two counter-intuitively being the more powerful of the two.
That 2.9L makes 440 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque in the Panamera, besting the Macan Turbo's 3.6L by 40 hp, and just about matching it for torque. The 3.0L uses a smaller turbocharger and a higher compression ratio to generate 330 hp and 331 lb-ft – 10 hp and eight lb-ft less than the Macan S' current 3.0L, but with torque peaking at a lower engine speed.
Autocar says these new engines will accompany a mid-cycle styling refresh that will bring the expected restyled bumpers, headlights and taillights, changes that help the 2018 Macan compete against the recently launched Jaguar F-Pace and Land Rover's forthcoming Velar crossover.
