Featuring hundreds of thousands of vehicles for sale, Canada’s largest and most comprehensive automotive marketplace released their list of the Top 10 most searched vehicles today, according to data collected and analyzed by the site.
And autoTRADER.ca’s 2016 search data reveals that while many Canadian car shoppers were on the hunt for practical people movers this year, others were looking for something to get their pulse racing.
In the midst of yet another year of record breaking automotive sales, it’s no surprise that the perennial best-selling Ford F-150 was once again the most searched vehicle in 2016, as it was in 2015 when it usurped the throne from the Honda Civic which was relegated to fourth spot. This is corroborated by sales data obtained from Desrosier Automotive Consultants Inc. which cites the Ford F-150 and Honda Civic as the first and second highest selling models in the country respectively.
While the 2016 shortlist features a blend of mainstream cars, trucks, SUVs and crossovers, consumers were also searching for performance cars, like the Porsche 911, Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette. Perhaps a sign that consumer confidence is on the rise, or simply daydreaming how to spend that winning lottery ticket, many Canadians seem to be searching for something speedy, rather than just plain practical, reliable transportation solutions.
“This year’s most searched absolutely backs up national sales data we’re seeing in terms of positioning the Ford F-150 as the number one selling vehicle in the country,” says Michael Bettencourt, managing editor, autoTRADER.ca, “However, we also see an aspect of aspirational search in the form of luxury, performance and niche vehicles that typically sell in much lower volume.”
The latest autoTRADER.ca statistics include Top 10 lists of the most searched vehicles in each province and territory across the Canada. Interestingly, New Brunswick residents searched out more pick-ups and SUVs than any other province. Most of the vehicle searches across the country were remarkably similar, although the order did vary between provinces. Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador were exceptions where the Ford F-150 was not crowned as the top searched model, but instead the Ford Mustang took top spot, which was the second most searched nationally in 2016.
