There's a new Transformers movie coming out next summer (yup, number five), and there is a new Chevrolet Camaro out this year. Put the two together and you get a complete redesign of character Bumblebee to match up with the new model. The car still isn't the VW Beetle that purists wanted it to be, but I doubt VW would pay for the placement of a New New Beetle. At least not as much as GM. Director Michael Bay released the first photo of the Bee showing off the new look from the movie Transformers: The Last Knight. The body kit and makeover adds a seriously busy front bumper complete with splitters, canards, vents, grilles, and new LED accent lights. The hood is also redesigned with power bulges and added louvers and vents. On the front fender is a massive set of extractor grilles, underscored by black side skirts and a prominent rear fender vent. It also looks to have no shortage of rear wing. The look isn't exactly subtle, but then again, nothing in a Michael Bay movie ever is.
The latest Transformers movie is only the second major film to be shot in Cuba since the U.S. embargo was eased (after Furious 8), while primary filming is to take place in Detroit. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Isabela Moner, and it was just announced that Sir Anthony Hopkins is also joining the cast. Paramount Studios also announced in February that Bumblebee will be getting his own origin story in 2018.
Transformers: The Last Knight is scheduled to hit theatres in June 2017.
