Aston Martin and Formula 1's Red Bull Racing Team have announced they are working together to create a new Aston Martin hypercar. The collaboration would see Red Bull's Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey working with Aston Chief Creative officer Marek Reichman to combine knowledge and expertise to design a car to challenge the likes of McLaren, Koenigsegg and Pagani.
The project, dubbed AM-RB 001, would combine Aston styling and design with Red Bull Racing's expertise with carbon and other composites, aerodynamics, and technology. It was announced today in Melbourne in the lead-up to the start of the 2016 Formula 1 season, which sees the Aston Martin name and logo return to the series for the first time since 1960.
Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner has stated as far back as 2012 that "it’s a natural evolution for Red Bull Racing to get involved in road car engineering", and it looks like that is finally going to transpire with what he today calls "the ultimate of all road cars". Aston's Marek Reichman is responsible for the design of the One-77, the Vulcan and the recently shown DB11. Legendary F1 designer, Red Bull Racing's Adrian Newey said that "from the age of six I have had two goals in life – to be involved in the design of racing cars, and to be involved in the design of a super car.” Newey, who has designed F1 cars which have won over 80 Grands Prix, 10 Constructor's Championships, and is the only designer to win Constructor's Championships with three different teams, is now finally achieving the second goal.
