2025 Best Minivan: Toyota Sienna

Bacon and eggs. Canada and snow. Coffee and donuts. Practicality and minivans go together like all of these, with the possible exception of the latter since there are depraved individuals in our midst who prefer crullers over donuts. The horror!

Tasty yeast-based snacks aside, a combination of several attributes – including price, availability of all-wheel drive, stellar fuel economy, and new-for-2025 features, makes the Toyota Sienna a repeat winner in its category. This practical family hauler has been voted as the Best Minivan in the 2025 AutoTrader Awards for the third year in a row.

Our jury of more than 20 automotive experts from across the country considered every single minivan available for Canadians to buy and voted for the best ones using a dozen different criteria ranging from safety and quality to efficiency and performance. These criteria are weighted with a critical eye to the segment’s intended purpose, and jurors vote on vehicles that raise the bar, signifying vehicles they can confidently recommend to their family and friends.

Last year, Toyota made a hybrid powertrain the standard and only way a Sienna could be configured. This was a major reason why it captured these honours last year and continued as a repeat winner in 2025. A proven 2.5L four-cylinder engine tag teams motors and batteries to produce 245 horsepower and remarkable fuel economy. In fact, its estimated 6.6 L/100 km efficiency in combined city/highway driving conditions is a performance generally expected of small cars, not an eight-passenger van, and speaks to the two decades of experience Toyota has engineering hybrid powertrains.

Part of the Sienna’s winning formula is an all-wheel drive option, which adds just 0.1 L/100 km to its combined fuel estimate. Such a small penalty is possible thanks to an AWD system that uses an on-demand electric motor for the rear wheels instead of a traditional (and heavy) transfer case and driveshaft to funnel power rearwards.

Styling is always subjective, though the Sienna does a decent job of incorporating the trademark Toyota grille and items vans require, such as tracks for its sliding doors. Entertaining shades such as Blueprint and Ruby Flare are on this year’s docket, giving the van options beyond tinges of greyscale.

But it’s the interior that usually makes or breaks a minivan, and in the Sienna, it’s a space pushed further upscale this year with the introduction of a Platinum grade. This top-rung tier includes handy features such as an onboard vacuum cleaner to hoover up wayward Cheerios and a so-called FridgeBox to help chill an endless parade of juice packs. The all-wheel-drive XSE can be fitted with a Tech Package with a rear-seat entertainment system, banging stereo, and wide-angle backup camera with an integrated washer. Every Sienna gets a suite of active driver safety helpers, such as a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, and full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control.

Pricing for the Toyota Sienna starts at just $47,650 plus fees, just a bit more than last year. In this age of hyperactive inflation, the relatively stable price is nothing short of remarkable. That sum nets a front-wheel-drive family hauler in LE trim that can carry eight people, has heated front seats, and three-zone climate control to ensure all passengers are comfortable. All-wheel drive is a $1,840 proposition and is worth considering, especially since it barely impacts fuel economy.

Practical, energy efficient, and available with all-wheel drive? With that resumé, it is easy to see why the Toyota Sienna has earned AutoTrader’s 2025 Best Minivan award.
