The Porsche Macan and its new electric variant have been voted by our team of experts as the Best Compact Luxury SUV in the 2025 AutoTrader Awards. The new Macan thoroughly impressed our jurors by setting a new benchmark in nearly every way.
Our jury of more than 20 automotive experts from all over the country considered every vehicle available in this segment before voting for the best ones, representing vehicles they feel confident recommending to their own family and friends. The Macan is beautifully built, practical, high-tech, and engaging to drive, making it the clear choice for this year's award, especially with the addition of a fully electric model to the lineup.
The 2025 Porsche Macan got a significant redesign and is now available with three different gas powertrains and four all-electric powertrains. Entry-level Macan and Macan T models use a 261-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, while the Macan S has 375 hp from a turbo-six. The range-topping (for the gas models) Macan GTS also sports a turbocharged six-cylinder engine with a whopping 434 hp.
The electric models are just as impressive, with the Macan Electric delivering 355 hp and the Macan 4 Electric featuring 402 hp and 496 km of range. The automaker also offers two high-performance versions of the Macan Electric, with the 4S offering 509 hp and the Macan Turbo Electric featuring 630 hp and 463 km of range.
These powertrains offer plenty of performance, with the Macan GTS sprinting from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, while the Macan Turbo Electric can do the same task in just 3.3 seconds. The Macan’s straight-line acceleration would be nothing without the SUV’s ample grip and responsive handling, which combine to make the drive enjoyable, engaging, and confidence-inspiring. The Macan’s ability to balance performance and versatility so well impressed our jury.
The Porsche Macan also sets the standard with its high-tech, luxurious, and meticulously crafted interior. The dashboard has several screens, including a 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10.9-inch infotainment screen, and a 10.9-inch screen for the front passenger. The system offers support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the Porsche can also be equipped with an innovative augmented reality navigation system that overlays route directions via the head-up display.
The 2025 Porsche Macan is also more spacious than before, thanks to its longer wheelbase. Gas-powered versions have 488 L of cargo space in the trunk, which expands to 1,503 L when the rear seats are folded. The Macan Electric models have even more space in the trunk with 540 L behind the rear seats and 84 L of space in the front trunk. The total cargo space in the vehicle with the rear seats folded is 1,348 L, which is plentiful for an SUV of this size.
With a starting price of just over $72,000 for the gas-powered models and $100,000 for the electric version, the Macan is definitely on the pricier side, but our jury still sees value in it because of how Porsche has executed it so flawlessly. With its versatile powertrains, pulse-raising performance, plentiful cargo space, and a high-tech cabin, the Porsche Macan has earned its win as the Best Compact Luxury SUV in the 2025 AutoTrader Awards.
