I’m in the new XC90 T8. It’s cold, grey and windy, yes, but sadly, no snowstorm. And winter’s here, but it’s not angry yet, and I’m thinking about how different a machine this has become, just one generation later. Like the changes? Hate them? Doesn’t matter: Volvo’s latest posh-ute has now won practically every SUV award in existence, and the new T8 powertrain is going to attract even more buyers for a look.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the bolts that attach the second-row seat belt buckles may not have been properly tightened. As a result, the seat belts could loosen or detach in a crash. Safety Risk: A seat belt that detaches in a crash could create an increased risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Volvo will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, tighten the second-row seat belt buckle attachment bolts.

On certain vehicles, the Telematics and Driver Support Systems may not function as designed due to a software error. In the event of a crash, this could mean that the Emergency Assist system would not alert Volvo and provide the GPS coordinates of the vehicle. This could create a risk of no response from emergency services. Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software.

On certain vehicles, the crimping of the tube for the Micro Gas Generator (MGG) in the 3rd row passengers side seat belt retractor was not manufactured to specification. In the event of a crash that warrants the activation of the seat belt pretensioner, the MGG squib may detach and be propelled out of the tube. Correction: Dealers will replace the 3rd row passenger’s side seatbelt retractor.

Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) 226 - Ejection Mitigation. Due to a manufacturing error in the surface treatment process, the bolts that were used to assemble the inflatable curtain (IC) airbag may not meet specifications. This could result in one or more of the bolts breaking, which in the event of a crash warranting deployment of the IC airbag, could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will replace the affected bolts.

On certain vehicles, the front passenger seatbelt buckle stud may not have been punched correctly during manufacturing. This may cause a separation between the buckle and the seat belt bracket, which could result in the belt not adequately restraining the seat occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the front passenger seat belt buckle stud, and replace the seatbelt buckle as necessary.

On certain vehicles, the air conditioner drain hose may leak into the passenger compartment due to incorrect installation during the manufacturing process. Over time, an accumulation of moisture in the passenger cabin could affect the SRS system (airbags), engine management systems and/or other systems. This could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash and/or increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction : Dealers will inspect the air conditioning drain hose to ensure correct installation and if necessary replace the drain hose.
