It is a tolerable work beater
Let's face it, it's a common daily. The one I am driving is beat up, no options, half a muffler and leaves much to be desired cosmetically. $40 to a tank and good heat, it's all I really need for the highway to and from work.
It does not have much in terms of power, takes a while to get to the 100km/h threshold but that could be attributed to neglect from the previous owner.
Overall, it is not pretty but it does the job.

Good little car
I have owned my Sunfire for a year now, aside from the problems with the struts that all Sunfires seem to have, she's a good little car. I have never broken down or had any engine issues. I would highly recommend a Sunfire as a first car or just a cheap easy to fix car. Will always buy GM from my experience with my car.

It was an amazing car
Loved the car so much that when the first one was damaged beyond use, I bought a second more newer model. Was very disappointed when GM stopped making them. The car was comfortable, reliable and good on gas.

Miss this, bring back the Pontiac
Pontiac was the best brand ever. Very reliable- it always came through for me. Started on the coldest days and never left me stranded. It would push it's way through almost anything, and always got me from A to B safely. GM needs to bring it back.

Sunfire review
The pontiac sunsire is a great smooth ride. Drove across canada in one and the price to fill the tank was cheap and gets great mileage. The sound system is exceptionally well for the technology offered in 2001. And seats comfortable in front or back. More than enough trunk space .

Reliable great looking car!
My first Sunfire was a 1999 and because I enjoyed this Sunfire, I purchased a second Sunfire. My second Sunfire is identical in colour except the interior. This one is a 2004.

It's okay
I've had it for 15 years and apart from blowing a gasket and needing basically a new engine a couple of years ago, it has run fine and only needed the occasional maintenance done. The bodywork rusts a lot, though.

Sunfire, The Dream
An absolutely amazing vehicle. You cant kill it, incredibly comfortable, affordable and easy to maintain. This card got me to back and forth to work without delay, any minor problem could be easy solved with simple labor and a plethora of spare parts. The joy of simply owning a sunfire is remarkable, it is simply the best possible car to own in the world.

good car for a first time driver
It always started for me no mater what. I had the 2.4L with manual transmission. If you drive it right the clutch and tranny never needed changing. Handled great in and out of the city. Good on gas if your engine is running ok. Proper maintenance will keep your gas bill low.

Dirt cheap to fix and very reliable
Buy a older sunfire or cavalier and enjoy the $2000 down 0 dollars a month club. For the cost of freight, you get a car. For the cost of the taxes, you get a car. For the cost of winter tires, you get a car. For the cost of A/C, you get a car. For the cost of interest, you get a car. If you got money than go buy a new car. But if your making 15$ a hour get a sunfire.

Disappointing
Less than 50k Kilometers -
Brakes only lasted 15K, cheap drums & rotos warped
BF Goodrich radials cracked and unsafe after only 30k!
Cheap, crummy stereo, front speakers died after a couple of years.
Clearcoat turned milky in blotches all over car.
Belts, brake lines poor longevity.
Will not buy another GM product.

99 Sunfires Cheap to Insure and repair but still comfortable
Not the most stylish out there, but definitely great mileage and super reliable
Best part is there are always tons of spare parts available at the wreckers
Even though they are old they come with airbags and abs as a standard feature which makes them more family friendly
Plus the insurance is ridiculously cheap,
a good budget friendly used car

It has been about an average vehicle
Bought this car 10 years ago. It has quick pick up, steady on the highway, its design is good in and out. It resembles a sport car so it feels a bit low when you sit. Reliability has been average at best. Rear brakes have been the worst problem - they start squeaking and need to machine/replace the drums per year or so. Maintenance is less expensive compared to SUVs etc. Fuel economy is ... not the best, but I guess it is tolerable. Check out fueleconomy.gov and then compare-side-by-side to see details on this model. Check out carbeef.com for tech. issues with this model.

The most Reliable Car i've had to date!!!
I had this car for a year, and in my ownership as a high school student at the time, this car has been in the ditch countless times, overheated, and even saved my life in a accident in which I dukes-of-hazard the approach in between the highway at 110km/h and still lived to drive me home. I Give this car 11/10 because of what it can withstand and how reliable it was. If they still made this car i would buy another.
