The value-packed Hyundai Accent continues into model year 2014 with a handful of minor tweaks to equipment and trim. This year, you’ll find a new telescoping steering column for GL and GLS trims to improve driver comfort, while Bluetooth with voice recognition now becomes standard for the mid-grade GL. While these are commonplace on larger cars, it’s a big deal on an entry-level subcompact like the Accent.
As with many subcompact cars, the Accent can be had as a four-door sedan or a five-door hatchback. All models come standard with an efficient and surprisingly advanced 1.6-litre four-cylinder which comes with direct injection. The Accent is more powerful than most of its rivals with 138 hp and 123 lb-ft of torque, helped along by either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with Active Eco mode for additional fuel savings (GL and GLS only).
The Accent is available in L, GL, and GLS trims.
In L trim, features include 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, body colour door handles and mirrors, a four-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo with USB/iPod input, sun visors with dual vanity mirrors, six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, four-way manually adjustable passenger’s seat, Eco Shift indicator, power door locks, and a trip computer. 5-Door adds rear spoiler, rear wiper, and cargo shelf.
GL trim adds heated exterior mirrors, 60/40 split folding rear seats, satellite radio, Bluetooth with voice recognition, cloth interior door trim, deluxe console with armrest, keyless entry with panic function, power heated exterior mirrors, air conditioning, heated seats, power windows with driver’s side auto-up, steering wheel mounted audio controls, cruise control, sunglass holder, telescoping steering column. The Sedan GL adds the six-speed automatic transmission; it is an option on the 5-Door.
GLS trim adds 16-inch alloy wheels, premium cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, chrome-plated interior door handles and parking brake button, fog lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift-knob, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, and a power sliding sunroof. The Sedan GLS adds the six-speed automatic transmission; it is an option on the 5-Door.
