Subaru Brings the Thunder with Special Edition WRX

Subaru is giving Canadian buyers a special edition of the WRX to call our own. It's the first special WRX in Canada in more than 15 years, Subaru says.

It's the WRX Raiu Edition, which comes from the Japanese word for thunderstorm. The cool grey khaki paint, and yes, the proper name for the colour is Cool Grey Khaki, looks like thunderclouds.

The Raiu will be limited to just 100 units for the entire country. The special car is based on the top-trim Sport Tech RS. That means it gets that car's Ultrasuede Recaro seats and Jurid front brake pads. Plus a nine-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, not that that's a performance boost.

The Raiu adds an STI-branded front lip spoiler, as well as side sills and a rear side spoiler. Inside, it gets an STI short-throw gearshift lever. There are black accents inside and out, and 18-inch gunmetal-finish wheels.

What there isn't more of with the thunderstorm WRX is lightning. And we don't just mean that it weighs the same. The WRX Raiu has the same 2.0L turbo-four that makes 268 hp and 258 lb-ft as the normal WRX.

The 2019 Subaru WRX Raiu Edition will be arriving at dealers soon, starting at $40,995.
