Honda Accord Hybrid Arrives Next Month

Honda's hybrid lineup is growing, and the autoTRADER.ca Top Family Car is getting a hybrid model. The Accord Hybrid arrives next month, starting at just over $33,000.

The Accord Hybrid comes in two trim levels. Base Hybrid and top trim Touring. The base model comes well equipped, with 17-inch alloys, LED low beam headlights, dual-zone climate control, and a 7.0-inch driver information centre. It also has the Honda Sensing active safety suite that features radar cruise control, collision mitigation braking, lane departure warnings, and traffic sign recognition.

The Accord Hybrid combines a 2.0L four-cylinder that uses the Atkinson cycle with a pair of electric motors. One drives the wheels, the other is attached to the engine to generate electricity. Like the system in the Clarity Hybrid, propulsion is from just the electric motor in most situations. The powertrain puts out 212 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque and doesn't use a conventional automatic transmission.

The new Accord Hybrid has a smaller power unit that is mounted with the battery under the rear floor. That gives the hybrid the same 473L trunk and 3463L interior volume as the gas-powered Accord. It also has a full 60/40 folding rear seat.

The most important figure for the Accord Hybrid is the fuel economy, and the car is rated for 5.0 L/100 km city. 5.1 highway. That slots it between the 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid LE's 4.9/4.8 and the 5.3/5.0 of the Camry XLE/SE hybrids. It's also well ahead of the 5.5/5.6 of the 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid and 5.9/5.3 of the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

The Accord Hybrid is scheduled to arrive at dealers at the end of April.
