Ford Recalls Fusion, Lincoln MKXs to Fix Faulty Seatbelts

Ford of Canada has recalled more than 35,000 examples of its Fusion sedan and upscale Lincoln MKX crossover to fix front seatbelts that may not adequately restrain occupants.

In the 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and 2013-2015 Lincoln MKX, Transport Canada says heat generated by activation of the seatbelt pretensioner in a crash can generate heat that may degrade the strength of the cable that anchors the seatbelt to the car's structure. In a subsequent crash, that cable may not be strong enough to withstand collision forces and could leave front seat occupants effectively unrestrained.

Ford dealers will apply a coating to the anchor cable to protect it from heat damage.
