Awesome Ride

The car lives for corners with it's 50/50 weight balance. It wants to be driven hard and fast. Handles great in all conditions. It's surpisingly comfortable for 4 adults for short distances.
Needs attention to it's oil consumption due to it's rotary engine but what a beautiful sound!

Unreliable, high maintenance, atrocious mpg

Beware this car is very easy to break. A small mistake may cause the engine to flood. Parts and servicing is the same as a BMW. Car wants premium gas only. It is fun to drive but running costs are not worth it.

Good performance bad milage

I like the style and the power of this car but the fuel economy is really a big issue. I have to get rid of it recently just because this issue. After all it's a sports car we can complain too much about that. Over all I had fun with this car. If you want buy this car, don't hesitate.

Great handling car!

The RX-8 has been a joy to drive. Whether it be on dry or snow covered roads the car is very predictable. The engine is extremely smooth but doesn't have a lot of torque and the power is only evident over 5000 RPM.

This is a sports car and nothing else. It's not a family car nor is it a grand touring car. i.e. it is not roomy or very comfortable for long journeys.

great car

Most people know that Mazda builds sporty cars. But for driving enthusiasts, it's the company's history of building sports cars with lightweight rotary engines that sets it apart from the competition. The Mazda RX-8 was one of these, and was the only one with a four-door configuration.

The heart of the Mazda RX-8 was its high-revving, 1.3-liter rotary engine. Because of the engine's compact size, engineers were able to mount it farther back in the RX-8's chassis, giving the car a coveted 50/50 front/rear weight distribution. This, along with balanced suspension tuning, sharp steering and a svelte 3,000-pound curb weight, made the rear-wheel-drive RX-8 one of the best-handling cars ever made.

Economic and sporty

This car puts out more power than one expects from a 1.3 litre engine. Rotary design allows a very smooth, noiseless, and powerful ride with this car.
I dont regret purchasing this car.

Get up and go!

As long as the car is working, it is the most fun I've ever had driving a car. It has a LOT of power, good corners, and is comfy. A few issues I've had is starting the vehicle in the cold weather and turning it off without the engine warming up, and the engine floods and my spark plugs and coils are shot.

On a good note, it is very fast, taking it up to 9 rpm makes it feel like a F! or stock car. As long as you are good with cars, I would recommend this car for you.

Great Car... but exercise caution

You will love this car but do your homework before you make the purchase. You should have some technical knowledge to really enjoy a rotary powered car. Prior to 2006 they had issues with the engine and flooding .Mazda extended the warranty, they must have agreed. If it snows park it...even with snow tires. This is the car for the person that wants an exotic real sports cars for a budget price. Rotarys make great power at high RPM but at a cost of drinking premium fuel. Cheaper insurance rate as it registers as a four door. Finally we get one on the insurance companys.
