Used Vehicle Review: Kia Rio, 2001-2005
The original Rio, launched as a 2001 model, was Kia's first subcompact car in Canada (other than the Kia-sourced Ford Festiva and Ford Aspire in the 80s and 90s). Though you might assume this car was based on the Hyundai Accent, given that Hyundai bought out the bankrupt Kia Motors Corporation in 1998; and the second-generation Rio (introduced in 2006) is a twin of the most recent Accent, this earlier Rio actually had little, if anything, in common with the Accent.
