Because it’s based on the Honda Civic sedan, the Canada-only Acura 1.7EL is "top-of-the-heap, reliability-wise, among small luxury sedans," reports Chris Chase. But he recommends avoiding 2001-2002 models because of potential automatic transmission problems.
