2005 Nissan Xterra

This is the real deal - Best SUV on the Planet - AWESOME
Nothing compares to this Beast of an SUV with a heart and soul of a Z sports car and the comfort of a Maxima sedan .
I have a 2000 TJ Sport Jeep for 10 years - very Nice but a rough rider.
This thing arrives in comfort , is fun and fast to drive and when you turn into the rough trail stuff it will go thru anything !!
Great reliability -
Fuel is good as compared to a Jeep.
Hey I rather take a 3 MPG penalty compare to a wimpy expensive , worthless trail rated Honda CRV .

Pleasant to drive on the highway, with its chassis mounted on a frame, which makes it solid in addition to a large load capacity with its rear suspension on spring blades.

Most reliable most practical most fun vehicle I ever owned!
I have had my X-Terra since early 2006. Just love the big bossy look of the X-Terra with its distinct roof rack. Cargo area is amazing! When I moved friends often said "you will never get all that in there!" then when I was ready to go they would ask me what I did with the rest of my stuff and I would reply with a grin. Just love this truck! You sit up high, good back support, smooth ride and relatively quiet. Dogs in the back love their 360 view when the back seats are Down. Look at the great reviews for the X-Terra!! Obviously a great vehicle.

love my xterra
love the design and power and feel of driving it. \It is a beautiful car and is great to drive. Biggest issue is fuel economy. We love how it drives and handles. It is stylish and fun. Never any major mechanical problems. Very well made and durable car.

Great SUV!
I love this truck. It handles amazing in snow. Just switch it to 4 X 4 and away you go. It does ride more like a truck than a car, but you are high up, you can see everything and works with weather! (more winter months)
It's the most reliable vehicle I have ever driven. Fuel economy is not too bad due to manual transmission, and no mechanical problems at all!

Enjoyed my Xterra
I've been driving my 2002 Xterra for 12 years and its been a great vehicle. Still in 2016 its a sexy vehicle and I get lots of compliments. It's never broken down, it's great in snow and I've taken it on a few gnarly 4x4 roads and it's gotten to the other side.
Having a manual transmission I think helps on fuel consumption.
I also like the rear stadium seating so the passengers in the back sit a bit higher up. We also camp a lot and the cargo capacity is great, then we carry either a box or our canoe up top. It's been a great truck!

Very reliable and great for road trips
I had my 2006 Xterra for over nine years and 200,000 km. It was great to load up for the slopes and long family trips. Also a great daily driver...with the exception of not being great on gas.

Like in the
I was going to give it 2/5 for the fuel economy but after reviewing my experiences with rigs capable same performance I mulled giving it a 4/ 5. Hauling a travel trailer 8 ft wide 15 long and weighting 3000 lbs I managed about 19 liters to 100kms of winding and hilly roads. By itself it will make about 11 on highway and about 13 of mixed driving. OK, my Mazda Protege will manage about half of that.
The other thing I love about this car is that despite it being a supercharged model it is fairly easy and reasonable on the wallet side of things to service and it has been very reliable to me. Other than for regular maintenance and replacement of worn out parts (e.g., front brake discs at 160000/7 years, muffler 200005/10 years) it has not been in the shop other than a scheduled non emergency visit to a garage to change a defective fuel sending sensor at 130000 kms for about $300.00.
3/5 for comfort is because it is a fairly small cab and I am 6'1" tall but the ride (unless accustomed to a Cadillac) is pleasant and long trips with frequent rough roads forays do not require a visit to the chiropractic practitioner.
A 5/5 for performance is given by the fact that it does what I want it to do. It does not handle like a ZR1 Corvette but it will steer without a fuss or wobbling where I want it, brake on a nickel and if I get stuck somewhere it is because I looked forward to getting stuck and it may almost mean that the road was meant for either: a modified jeep, a tracked vehicle or access was by helicopter only.
But the crown of praises goes to its manual 5 speed. It stays in gear and only goes into another when I want it and by grabbing the stick, not fumbling with some button or switch - and unlike some wimpomatics with tow/haul mode it will not gear down while hauling a trailer downgrade on a slippery road.
Appreciation for the styling is in the eyes of the beholder. I like its assertive styling and the delightful lack of useless logos.

Tougher than it looks
I was going to give it 2/5 for fuel economy but after reviewing my experiences with rigs capable of the same performance I even considered giving it a 4/5. Hauling a travel trailer 8 ft wide 15 long and weighting 3000 lbs I managed about 19 liters to the hundred kms of winding and hilly roads. By itself it will make about 11 on highway and about 13 on mixed driving. OK, my Mazda Protege will manage about half of that.

Its simply Bullet proof
In two words, Bullet proof.
I've done 230,000 plus km on this vehicle. We bought it new and kept up the maintenance. Even though this truck is going on 13 years old it still looks amazing. I would jump in my Xterra and drive anywhere in any conditions and never give a second thought, I trust it to get me there and back without a whimper.
For a vehicle as high as this it handles better than most newer 4X4s I've driven with no surprises.
How many cars/trucks can you say that about?

Reliable, Durable, Comfortable
There is no other vehicle like the Xterra. It can master any terrain. Whether you're surfing at the beach or hitting the slopes, the Nissan Xterra will get you there in comfort with plenty of cargo space.

It looks tough, tackles any obstacles with on the fly 4WD, but rides smooth with its high clearance and variable differential control.

2nd worst problem "Top Vehicle Problem Trends of 2012".
Transmissions are failing around 180,000km due to known issue. An alarming number of Nissan Xterra, Pathfinder and Frontier owners are stepping forward with stories about their cracked radiators which are causing coolant to leak into the transmission.
Expect a repair bill around $4,000 - $6,000

Smooth Powerful SUV
This was my second buy after my Corolla got wrecked in an accident. After using this vehicle it felt like I am riding a young powerful horse. The vehicle has the needed power to climb mountains, go on real long high way drives with comfort and confidence with full size spare wheel and tire under the trunk. I drove it from Dallas, TX to Toronto, ON in rain with 4WD on, and enjoyed the long drive. On highways I am no longer get an ant feeling when big SUVs pass by. After all it's a legendary rough and tough long lasting SUV!
